Student Testimonials

"I was Jeff D'Antona's piano student for three years and he is the best piano teacher I've ever had. I had been taking lessons on and off for over twenty years, yet I learned the most and grew the most as a musician during my time with Jeff. He is equally as talented at teaching as he is at being a musician, which is an invaluable combination of skills. He fashioned my lessons after my own musical goals, rather than just handing me a generic repertoire of sheet music to recite. He didn't just teach me how to play the piano, but he improved my overall musicianship through ear training, music theory, and teaching me how songs are constructed using music that I love, like The Beatles, Ray Charles, Elliott Smith and Nina Simone. He gave me practice techniques that translated into real learning and improvement. Lessons with Jeff gave me an arsenal of information that I continue to use on my own to learn new material and improve my skills."

“Jeff D'Antona was by far the most inspiring, insightful instructor that any jazz pianist could wish for, no matter what stage you are at. He was able to teach me efficient practice methods that were actually fun, practical, and most importantly, used a creative process that fed my will to learn more. From basic scales and chord progressions to advanced rhythms and harmony, Jeff made everything seem trivial and intuitive. He even made me enjoy and progress at sight-reading, one of my worst skills at the time. Since my lessons with Jeff I've formed a band, have been gigging regularly, and we are about to release our first CD this spring. None of that would have been possible without such a great musical instructor and someone I can call a friend. I highly recommend Jeff D'Antona if you're interested in jazz or classical piano.”
                   - Dan B. -

“I approached Jeff for lessons with the hope of playing jazz standards out of the ‘Real Book.’  As a busy working professional, I didn’t have much time to practice and wanted to take piano lessons for my enjoyment of the music.  Jeff was a very patient teacher and broke down the process of reading out of a fakebook into manageable steps.  He gave me specific assignments each week to keep my practice routine focused.  In additional to working on the songs that I loved, such as “Bewitched” and “Autumn Leaves,” he gave me a strong foundation in chords and music theory which I could build off of for years to come.  Now hardly a day goes by that I don’t sit down and play a few jazz standards…something I’ve dreamed of doing for decades and, thanks to Jeff, now brightens my everyday.”
                 - Buz E. -

"As a jazz drummer, Jeff offered me much more than just standard piano instruction.  Jeff was aware of my main instrument and used it to help me better understand piano as well as to condition my lessons to fit my skills as a drummer.  He taught me forms, to hear chord changes, to support the melodies and to listen to the rhythm section and soloist.  He taught me new ways to feel the time and hear the music to.  He showed me how to count in odd time signatures and to open up to world music.  He taught me how to apply theory and ear-training to create my own compositions to expand from drummer to musician to composer. He taught me to never limit myself. His mentoring also went beyond the class room and to the stage where he would let me sit in and perform with him, teaching me qualities in performance and applying what I have been learning to live situations. He also has helped me link up with other musicians in the community and introduced me to my current drum instructor.

"Not only is Jeff D'Antona a fine musician, but he is a marvelous teacher. I learned more about how to play piano in a few lessons with Jeff than I did in several months with other teachers. Jeff's teaching method met me where I was, and he encouraged me to grow from there. As a music teacher myself (voice & flute) I know that it takes more work to customize lessons to the individual needs of each student, but the results are far more rewarding. Jeff made me WANT to practice because it was exciting to see what I could do next. I highly recommend Jeff as a piano teacher.
